Hi I currently work for a bus company that has lost its contract with the school distict so effective July '09 First Student wiil be taking over. This however means that all of us have to apply for positions even tho we are a union contract, so seeing the video of the San Francisco bus driver picket was very interesting. We have already learned that some of our drivers are not eligible to be hired by First Student because of some misdemeanor charges & such. These are drivers that have been employeed for years with good work records. If anyone can help give me some info as to their experiences with First Student & their policies I would really appreciate it. As a newly elected union griever I would love some help on how to fight to help these good people keep their jobs!

I am Trans.Routing Coord.-Special Ed.
I coordinate around 300 students on 21 buses going to 22 schools. The SpEd programs are scattered all over the county. This is a large county. Drivers pick up in an area and bring all SpEd students to a centeral parking lot where 10 monitors put students on the bus that takes them to the school that has the program they are in. This takes around 2 hrs am and 2 hrs pm. I have parents telling be this to long to be on a school bus. We have tried other ways that did not work out.
Does anyone else have this problem?
